Royal Castle Berchtesgaden
The Royal Palace of Berchtesgaden, summer residence of the Wittelsbach dynasty after 1810, was once the center of a small ecclesiastical state, where Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria lived with his family and furnished the palace with his art collections.
Beschreibung
Founded around 1102, the Augustinian canons' monastery was subsequently granted imperial immediacy with the granting of blood jurisdiction and in 1559 acquired the status of a princely provostry. the monastery remained the residence of the sovereigns until secularization in 1803. crown prince Rupprecht of Bavaria lived here with his family and furnished the castle with his art collections. the visit is only possible with a guided tour. The castle is occasionally inhabited.
