Old Saltworks Bad Reichenhall - Salt Museum
A captivating experience for young and old, a piece of Bavarian history and the fascination of historical and modern technology. The precious, natural Alpine brine has been unearthed there for centuries.
Description
The Alte Saline (Old Salt Works), built by King Ludwig I after the town fire in 1834, conceals an underground, widely ramified network of dark tunnels and mysterious grottos.
For centuries, the valuable "white gold" has been mined here, which in those days stood for power and wealth far more than it does today. Thanks to King Ludwig I, the Old Salt Works is considered a magnificent landmark of this wealth.
